Green Cheek conure breeders in Northern California..and acouple questions?

The pet store I usually get my birds from dont sell them.(they breed there birds or buy from local breeders). I live in northern california and am looking for a breeder for a Green Cheek conure. Or a Pet Store that is like what I described that sells them.

I know it will very from breeder to breeder but on average how much do they cost? I wont be getting one for awhile but I like to have everything settled.

And are maroon belly conures the same as a green cheek conure? Just different colored? I read somewhere that they are the same and was just wondering.

Maroon-bellied conures and Green-cheeked conures are two separate species, and several other related species exist. The source listed below ( www.pyrrhurabreedersassociation.com/ ) has some excellent information on both species, as well as information for a couple of California breeders (I'm not sure if they are in northern or southern CA).

In my area, they tend to cost around $300-$400. Petsmart sells them on occasion, but you have to be careful that your local store is reputable, as they differ widely in their standards of care (depsite their company-wide regulations) depending on how knowledgable the store staff really is. (I used to work for Petsmart, so I'm speaking from experience.) I would recommend getting one from an experienced breeder.

Green-cheeked conures are one of my favorite small parrots, and although I've only met a couple of Maroon-bellied conures, they are amazing little birds as well. Good luck!
