Green Howard, the most interesting player in Acorn Web Offset Handicap at York
Friday’s Acorn Web Offset Handicap at York looks fiercely competitive, and plenty will depend on the uncertain ground conditions. The going is good to soft, and a total of 16 horses have entered the race in pursuit of £11,644.
Jo´Burg has done well in different conditions, and looks the one to watch out for. However, it is still unsure whether there will be enough pace to assistant him. His name might be withdrawn, if the conditions turn unsuitable.
In such circumstances, Green Howard is the one to back. The 4-year-old has a wonderful strike-rate, and can stay ahead throughout. Despite the fact that his pedigree is a worry for one mile, the bettors should consider him, when it comes to stake money.
After making seasonal debut on a high, he lost momentum, and faced a couple of unlucky defeats. None of his beatings was disgraceful though. The Robin Bastiman-trained regained winning rhythm at the end of August, when taking a close win over Rough Rock.
Yarmouth’s audience saw him performing well under pressure. Ridden by Darryll Holland, he maintained the standards, and led well inside the final furlong. Following a superb effort, the 7-4 favourite clinched the first place by half a length in the Seafood
Restaurant Great Yarmouth Handicap.
According to the schedule, the class 2 meeting will be commenced at 15:05 GMT. There are many dangerous horses in the line-up, thus a thrilling battle is on the cards.
Bancnuanaheireann has been struggling since his second at Goodwood in July. Michael Appleby’s charge showed some improvement last time, when finishing fourth behind Bronze Angel at Newmarket. It was a huge field, and the 5-year-old did a fine job to stay
prominent.
Able Master is an in-form candidate, but has raced only once beyond seven furlongs. Wannabe King is far from the most consistent, but won the penultimate start. No Poppy, who won her latest trip by six lengths, is facing a lot harder task.
Without a shadow of doubt, there are many talented horses in the pack. In the absence of Jo’Burg, Bancnuanaheireann looks to be the biggest threat to Green Howard. Good luck to all the contenders.
