Green Howard – A bright prospect for the future
Green Howard is definitely one of the brighter prospects for winning the Group races in the future. He is relatively new to the sport and is learning with the passage of time. He has improved a lot since making debut and has delivered some memorable performances
for his team throughout the year.
It is never easy for any runner to compete at the highest level straight away, thus they make progress steadily. Same was the case with Green Howard, as he started off with some smaller events and is moving forward step by step.
The four-year-old gelding started off his career in July 2011 and got the attention of everyone with his solid performance. Although, he was unable to finish on top of the table, yet he secured the third place, making his team proud. He was not expected
to finish that high and the bookies had given him a starting price of 25 to 1.
Despite that, the talented runner did not panic under pressure and delivered a memorable show. All of his opponents were also fighting for their first victory, so they would have been a touch nervous too.
Afterwards, the Robin Bastiman’s trainee took part in a couple of more Maiden Stakes and his performances in them were really impressive. He finished as a runner up once whereas finally managed to bring up his first victory in his third attempt. He was priced
as the favourite back then and no one managed to cause many problems for him in the end.
Following his maiden success, Green Howard took part in three more races during the 2011 season and managed to win a couple out of them. He finished the year on a high and started gaining more confidence with the passage of time.
His 2012 campaign also started on a high, as he secured a victory in his first outing of the year. Since then, he has been delivering some good results with consistency in different classes and his opponents have mostly found it hard to dominate him completely.
Overall, Bahamian Bounty’s son has appeared in 11 races, winning five of them whereas finished as a runner up and third on the same number of times. If he continued performing in a similar way, he will soon be able to compete against the best in the business
at the highest level of horseracing.
