Question:

Green Pool Water ???

I have an 18' x 48" pool. I had to shocked it last week as it was cloudy and it did the trick. I was away on the weekend and the filter didn't run, we had alot of rain and the kids haven't been in it too much the last few days.

This morning when I looked at it it was green. I went in it with a mop and removed all the green from the bottom. It just then began to float in the water.

The floor wasn't slimy at all. I changed my filter and left it running after I put in the alecide.

What should I do now? Shock it again or wait. I am in Ontario and the humidity and rain are a huge factor in this I'm sure. Does anyone have a soloution to this problem??? I'd really appreciate it... Thanks

  1. Take a water sample to your local pool shop for testing. I bet it need stabilizer as well as chlorine.

  2. I have that problem some times with mine from to much rain. You have to keep the chlorine levels up to keep the green out. It seems to be worse if the pools are shaded. The pumps and filters are not to big usually so once it gets gren its hard to clean make sure your filters clean a dirty filter wont clean the green. You might try a floater that holds chlorine that will always give it a dose of chlorine to help keep the green out

  3. when you put the algicide in the pool you have to brush the sides off. it takes 11 to 17oz per 10,000 gal. then shock it put three to four times the amount you would normally do. wait a couple of days then vaccuum all the dead algae up. you may have to shock it every day until the cloudiness goes away. if not depending on the filter it may need new sand or cleaning.

  4. put algacide in it about 16 oz that will kill the alga then check ph and shock wait a day and get your  chlorine level up  then put in cchlorine stabilizer
