Question:

Green Pool?

I am having a horrible time getting my pool clear. We added algicide and shocked it. I woke up to a blue but cloudy pool and poured in some clarifier. Since it was just cloudy, I let the kids swim in it after the clarifier was mixed in well.

After the kids had been swimming in it for about 2 hours, the tint turned back to green, so I had them get out. Now I am dealing with a green pool again. I am wondering if there is a possiblility that there was still some algae on the bottom that had settled or could it be dead algae? It is about the color of a light colored grass.

All of my chemical levels are fine. I am holding chlorine fine, my filter is working great. My pool is just under 12,000 gallons. Any suggestions?

  2. KEEP SHOCKING IT AND VACUUM IT FREQUENTLY AND ALSO LEAVE THE PUMP RUNNING,

  3. Yes you still have live algae in the pool. "Normal" chlorine levels are used to prevent algae from taking hold in your pool. Once you get algae "normal" levels wont cut it. The green to blue cloudy is normal in this situation, however, you need to keep the pool's chlorine at shock level until the pools clears. The pool is blue can cloudy from dead algae (cloudy) and the chlorine (blue). Even at this stage there is probably some live algae which is what happened with you. Algae creates a protective barrier over itself and works its way deep into any crevices, cracks, or plaster. Keeping your pool at shock level, brushing daily, and vacuuming every few days will expose the live algae and get rid of the dead. Let the pump run 24hrs/day until it clears while keeping your chlorine at shock level- at least 11ppm but depending on your CYA that could be higher.

I would suggest adding 3/4 of a gallon of regular unscented 6%bleach midday and another 3/4 after sundown. This should keep it at shock level.
