  1. holes in leaves are generaly caused by snails, they will hide away during the day and come out during the night or earlier if temperatures drop and there is high humidity the only thing you can do is pounce when they are out, a torch and bucket are the standard equipment an unsqueemish attitude is a necessity drowning the beasties is far more bearable to me than the alternative of squishing, they can then go onto the compost heap or be left out for a hungry badger. thrushes love to eat snails but they seem to prefer them alive slug pellets are not de rigure as they have nasty effects on other forms of life including the thrushes who are your alies in the control of slug and snail damage. By the way slugs will just chew away at the stem and demolish the whole plant. The other possibility is some sort of caterpillar. lift up the leaves and look carefully under them some of the little feeders can be difficult to see. you can pick these off and put them on a wall for the birds.

  2. Probably a blight has hit them.

  3. Slugs can be caught with beer.  Put a couple inches of beer in a shallow flat pan along side of the pepper plant.  During the early snail hours they will be lured to the beer and die
