During an official press conference in Mohali, Gul was asked by a journalist about the match-fixing rumors in the all-important encounter and the fast bowler replied that he and his team is just concentrating on the game rather than the media reports.
Fast bowler claimed that the Green Shirts have faced a lot of controversies and off-field pressure since Pakistan’s tour of England last year and this why his team is not fazed by the hype of playing against the arch rivals.
“I am not aware of this until you pointed out. We don't focus on the media, we are focusing only on our cricket. The kind of pressure we have had over the last several months and the way we have handled it, this is no pressure at all. We are focusing totally
on our game,” he said.
Gul promised the Pakistani fans that his team will give their best to reach the finals of the mega event and there would be no shortage of effort. However, he added that they do not have control on the result of the match. He said that there is always pressure
on both teams when they are up against each other because the fans on both sides of the border do not expect anything less than a victory.
“Always, both teams are under pressure. Fans of both teams can't bear a loss, whatever support we are getting we are happy. We will try to do our best, winning or losing is not in our hands. We can only give our best,” he added.
Gul has been in sublime form in the mega event as he has taken 14 wickets in seven matches with a stunning bowling average of 14.5 runs per wicket. His role is considered vital in the semi-final because of his ability to give crucial breakthroughs to Pakistan
both with the new ball and the old one.
