Green Valley boys volleyball team defeats the Ranchos on Tuesday
The Green Valley boys volleyball team had much to celebrate for as they were able to defeat the Ranchos by winning three back to back sets.
The match in which both the teams competed against each other was part of the Sunrise Region tournaments. Green Valley earned themselves a quarterfinal win on Tuesday as they swept Rancho. The venue of the match was the gym of Las Vegas High.
Green Valley has been having some problems with showing consistency in their performance but their last victory was a well-earned one. Not only were they able to make a clean sweep over their opponents, the Gators managed to do so in a decisive fashion.
By the time that the Gators were celebrating their win after a period of struggle and the Ranchos were heading out of the courts with heads hung low, he scoreboard read 25-16, 25-18 and 25-12.
With their recent win, the Gators have been able to improve the record of their overall wins to 13 in addition to six losses.
In contrast to this, the performance statistics of Rancho fall a shade paler. The number of times that the Ranchos have won is 12. They have suffered seven losses as well.
The first set saw the Gators take the lead early on in the game. Once they had the lead the Ranchos found it hard to overcome the dominance the Gators maintained on the court. The Ranchos were unable to challenge the Gators significantly as the Gators kept
extending their advantage. As a result, the first set of the match was bagged by the Gators at 25-16.
Building on the momentum generated at the end of the opening set of the game, the Gators were able to come out strong in the second set as well. The Ranchos tried to step up their game but all that they could do was put in a half-hearted effort. Therefore,
it was not a tough job for the Gators to secure the second set of the match at 25-18.
In the third set, the Gators were able to smother the Ranchos by winning it at 25-12.
After the match had reached its close, senior Beau Gronert of the Gators made the following comments, “I just wanted to make the most of the opportunity that we had this year, and that we didn't have last year. With the players we have this year, and the
way we work as a team, we're so much more tight. We want to take that as far as we can.”
