Question:

Green algae in tap water?

Since we moved into our current home 3 years ago, we have had problems with the cold water taps. The downstairs kitchen cold water supply comes straight from the mains and is fine. However, the other cold water taps, from the cold water tank in the attic, are the problem. Around the end of the taps, we get a build-up of green-black leafy material, presumably algae. This also forms inside our children's bath toys, etc. Water coming out of these taps, to the naked eye, looks clear, but there is obviously something there causing the growth to appear inside the bath toys. Is this really algae, or is it something else? How can I get rid of this problem? Thanks for your help.

  1. If you can bleach this tank try that otherwise talk to a plumber about bypassing it altogether and piping all the taps to the main
