  2. Each tartan patern has it's own colours to signify seperate clans!

Tartans were adopted as patterns and colors to identify families and regions.  Colors on tartans don't have necesarily a universal meaning such as say a diagonal line traversing from top left to bottom right on a family crest indicating being an illegitame child.  Individual clans may associate a color with an idea or symbol, but this is not universal.   Typically, back in the day each clan had a woman who made the design with what was available and they kept on using it.
