I am a green card holder, and I want to change my first name. First questions is: Is that easy for a green card holder to change their first name? with what kinda reason? what will happen to my passport and social security number?

I am getting married next week. I also want to change my last name to my future husband's last name. So I really don't know what to do in terms of either my first name or last name I should start to change first. I'll appreciate any of your help. Thank you.

  1. Not sure how old this question is...but, you will need to file form I-90 with USCIS.  For a change of your last name, you need to include a copy of your marriage certificate, but in order to change your first name you need to get a court order (easy to do, but you have to pay a bit and will probably have to publish the name in the paper - check your local state/county court's website).  Include a certified copy of the court order with your I-90.
