  1. Sad to say, this may depend on ethnicity.  When my husband and I went through this process (and let me tell you its not fun!!!) they told us to reapply for for his green card about a year ahead of time.  He got his actual green card much faster than we were told it may take (God bless immigration lawyers!), so it can be anywhere from a month or longer.

  2. With those incompetent people working at the INS (HS), years.

  3. Don't worry.  Your greencard doesn't actually expire, you just have to periodically "renew" it.  You are still perfectly legal as long as you have submitted the paperwork.  Your card has already been renewed when the paperwork was received, as long as you have not violated any of the terms.  Your current green card will serve until the replacement card arrives.

The amount of time it takes to get it back is simply due to the amount of backup at that particular office.

  4. It's been a few years since my husband had to go through this process, but, he got his 10 year green card well before the new stamp in his passport from immigration expired.  I think that he got it quicker then he expected.
