If I have an F-2 Visa but recently divorced my husband and married a US citizen, what steps and/or forms do I have to take in order to change my status to that of a green card holder (permanent resident). Please be very specific if you happen to know the answer.

  1. It calls AOS - Adjustment of Status

    Form:  I-130, I-485, I-693, I-864, I-765, I-131, G-325A

You can find these forms in USCIS.  Just google it.  Follow the instruction on it.  The above is the complete set you need to fill them out, except I-693, you need a find a civil surgeon to do it for you.  When you google the forms in USCIS, it has clear instruction for you to follow.

I-864 is the most tricky one.  Your husband must be your affidavit support.  Also has poverty level requirement.

Go to www.immigrationportal.com.  They have a very clear instruction of how to apply.

Again, if you find it is too hard for you to handle it all by yourself, please find a license attorney to take care it.  It's expensive, but it's worth it.  Because you cannot afford a single mistake.  That I can assure you.

P.S.  Warning:  Please post carefully on that forum, sometimes people are nasty.  Please do the research before you post any question.  And about you divorced your husband and married to a us citizen may cause an Immigration Officer question you seriously.

    Good luck!

  2. You need to apply for a fiancee visa before you get married.  But . . . you got married before asking permission.  tsk tsk tsk!  Go back and start again.
