Green contest ideas?

I am trying to set up guidelines and a point system and a "going green" contest for a school and its students and families. Teaching how to do the environmentally minded things would be part of it, and then points for ideas implemented. I am trying to compose a list of ideas; trying to figure how to assign points; and what to have as awards. Many ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Awards could include:

- a DVD movie of an environmentally conscious movie, like "Happy Feet";

- a small tree that can be planted in someone's back yard;

-  Nature books

you can have like a flower/plant contest. best looking plant wins!

1)Kids could go around their respective neighborhoods to see if they can convince their neighbors to buy and implement the energy-efficient light bulbs in their houses.

2) Get a fundraiser going to see how many trees can be planted in a part of town that doesn't seem to have a lot of green.

3) You know those "sun-tea" containers? You mix tea and put it out in the sun for a few hours, and it makes awesome tea? Explain that to the kids, and ask them to come up with other things that the sun can be used for, without using any other source of energy (besides maybe water).

Just some ideas: I have no suggestions on how to distribute points lol, thats tough.

Just grow grass in your gardens, no paving for the drainage to allow otherwise the northern hemisphere will just flood.

you can do the thing where kids go around selling stuff, but they sell green things! like flourescent lightbulbs! And then they can get prizes!

"Do It in the Dark!" Contest

You can divide your schools up (i.e. different dorm buildings, classrooms, etc) to see who can save the most energy for a couple of weeks or maybe a month. Winners get prizes.

"Recyclemania" (ACC schools)

Again, divide the school up and see who can recycle the most plastics and paper!

Oh, just visit Wisconsin to witness the  Green Bay Packer pilgrims travel  to the Lambeau Cathedral.  They all wear green, you see.  Enshrined at the monolithic cathedral are remnants of Packers who have been granted sainthood by the great football spirit in the sky.

Be sure to notice all the shrines to Brett Favre set up on front lawns.  Some are LIT!  Some have sparkly green and gold things waving in the wind to get your attention.

And never, ever try to convert a Packer fan toward to your religion.   Oops, I meant team.

Oh, look!  I see Vince Lombardi in the clouds!  There's a goal post!  Isn't it funny how you can "see" things in the clouds?
