When the price number is green, does that mean that i pay that exact price even though i put my higher bid up over that price?

  1. It sounds like the seller set up a Reserve price... the minimum amount of money the seller is willing to accept for the item. Until someone makes a bid equal to or greater than the Reserve price, it stays red in color. Once a bid is received that is equal to or greater than the Reserve price, the color of the price changes to green.

The final price on an item is whatever the winning bid was. For example, you and I are bidding on the same item.  I enter a maximum bid of $10 and you enter a maximum bid of $15. Once I've reached my $10 maximum, that's it for me (unless I increase my maximum bid.) But you'll still be able to bid. eBay will automatically raise your bid to $10.50 for you. If nobody else bids and the auction ends, you will buy the item for $10.50 even though you had a maximum bid of $15 in place.

eBay prepared a tutorial that goes into a lot more detail about bidding, Reserve pricing, etc. You can search by major topic or by using the alphabetical A-Z Index in the left column.
