They also serve to improve urban air quality, reduce the "urban heat island" effect, and help to manage storm-water runoff. All of which saves money and cushions the environment from the impacts of man made structures.

If your talking about the color it will absorb solar radiation and will heat the building. White absorbs less solar radiation than any other color.

Green roofs provide insulation. When it's hot out, they help keep the heat out. When it's cold out they help keep the heat in.
