Question:

Green slimy stuff from my horses mouth?

Well, at one of my lessons when I was getting ready to mount, my horse kinda threw up green slimy stuff. I showed my trainer but she said he's would be fine. He's been acting really strange though! When we were trotting he was being bratty and wouldn't budge! my trainer even went on and didn't move! I gave him a bath after, and HE DIDN'T WANT TO GRAZE OR EAT ANY GRASS! I only visit him twice a week and he has hardly any grass (we have tons of hay and grain)

I don't want him to be sick!

  1. Green slime - how nice. Mine does it.

It happens when they've been eating and then you bridle them and work.

    Gross but harmless.

  2. there is nothing wrong with it! hes perfectly fine it just means he was chewing on the bit(probably after eating grass) its actually a good sign, it means you have soft hands :)

  3. I would have his teeth checked.

  4. Just so you know, horses physically CAN'T throw up.  However he could have teeth problems and need a vet or equine dentist to float his teeth (File them) so that he can chew evenly.  When a horse has food that is STILL there basically, that normally means his teeth aren't getting the job done.

  5. That green slimey stuff was probably chewed grass that he moved around when you put the bit in his mouth. And as for when you were riding, he was probably just being stubborn or lazy. There is a possibility that he may be sore. You didn't say an age for him, so his unwillingness to move could be attributed to that. As for not eating grass; if he has hay available constantly, he will probably be filling up on it instead of the grass. Basically, he ought to be just fine. Normal horse stuff.
