GreenEdge-AIS to send a 100% Australian squad at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012
Team GreenEdge is all set to enjoy its World Tour license in the 2012 season. The team will make its debut appearance at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic and it has also been revealed that Green Edge-AIS women’s team will also participate
in the event.
The four-day race series is due to begin on Sunday January 1st at Geelong, Australia. A total number of five cyclists have been selected by Team GreenEdge-AIS, the team is keen to send a full Australian squad.
The five cyclists who will represent the team are: Shara Gillow, Amanda Spratt, Melissa Hoskins, Jessie McLean and Tiffany Cromwell.
The race will begin at the thrilling Ritchie Boulevard hot-dog circuit on Sunday evening.
The cyclists will move to Eastern Gardens for the second stage, whereas day three will take the race to a ‘new direction’ in Portarlington.
The race will conclude on January 4th at Williamstown and a new winner of the event will be revealed on the same day.
Australian cyclist, Rochelle Gilmore, has also confirmed that she will ride the contest with BikeExchange Dream Team. She will make an appearance after experiencing a horrible crash at the Giro Donne.
The 30-year-old won the previous two editions of the race and is determined to make it three in a row, with a victory in 2012.
Gilmore briefed, "I am pleased to have been back on the bike for just over three weeks without any pain, injuries, illnesses or setbacks. It was a strong, solid and progressive three week training block".
If she wins, it will be her fourth overall victory at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic and she can break Anna Wilson’s record for the highest number of wins (1996, 1998 and 1999).
Anna Wilson is still considered as the event’s most successful rider and Gilmore is a hot favourite to achieve that honour.
Rochelle stated, "It wasn't until I had learnt to walk and ride again that I could reflect and understand how serious my injuries from the crashes were. There must be some truth in the saying 'what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger' as I've managed to
produce my best ever power outputs during this training block”.
Nicole Cooke will also be seen in action at the race. The former world and Olympic champion will also ride for BikeExchange Dream Team at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012.
With all the teams gearing up for the year ahead, Jayco Bay Cycling Classic will feature some brilliant riders, a tough challenge and a hard-fought battle for victory.
