  1. Greenhouse gases are transparent to light at visible and UV wavelengths from the Sun.  Once the Earth absorbs the light from the Sun, it re-emits the energy as heat, in the infrared wavelengths where greenhouse gases absorb them.  This is a helpful diagram:

Once the greenhouse gases absorb the light, they re-emit it in all directions, including back downward toward the Earth, which causes the planet to warm.

  2. try this site.. i hope it will help you better. this will give u a simple yet detailed diagram on greenhouse effect to the earth.

  3. nope

  4. Atmospheric carbon dioxide that does not allow for heat from the sun to escape back into space...it absorbs the heat & traps it....much like the affect of being within a greenhouse.

The planet Venus is a perfect example...it's atmosphere is so thick with the CO2 that the surface temperture there could easily melt lead & is actually hotter than the surface of Mercury...the closest planet to the sun!
