Greenwell Mentor dominant in the Williamhill.com Northern Puppy Derby – Heat 3
The year-old brindle dog, Greenwell Mentor, gets a nod for the Williamhill.com Northern Puppy Derby – Heat 3 on Saturday, 6th October at Newcastle over 480 metres flat. Blackhouse Tubbs, Calzaghe Zonda, Mill Genovese, Blazedale Black and Hather Sherlock are up for the challenge. Majority in the line-up has been through Grade T races recently, which can enhance their odds for the race tonight, but the lack of recent experience can cost them.
The P. Flaherty trained won the Williamhill.com Northern Puppy Derby Trial Stakes on 29th September, 2012 at Newcastle over 480 metres. The year-old had broken out of the sixth trap, and covered as much ground as was possible. Falling into the lead soon had him on the other end of the wire in 28.88 seconds.
Missing the wire by the mark of ¾ of a length was, Mill Genovese.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Lookoutforflash.
The straight on leap from the Grade T races to the open level reflects the confidence and conviction that the connections had in the ability of their under charge. All the pieces fell right into the places where they belonged as Greenwell Mentor did not disappoint his team, and came back with the title for the kennel.
The evening’s favourite has once again drawn the same box from which he won the open race debut.
Daves Mentor’s dark hound out of, Greenwell Puma, will race in black and white tonight. He already knows the tactic that will get him through the wire before the rest of the lot can reach out for it.
Not switching to any other side, and just staying on the wide end will not only give him the chance to reel in over the distance, but will also keep him away from the crowds and traffic.
The evening’s favourite will need to look out for the two-year-old brindle dog, Mill Genovese. His first two attempts at the open level resulted in a third, and then a second position.
He too will race from the same spot as the last time, keeping in mind what he has learnt from the previous mistakes will make the trip easier for him.
