I noticed this recently when I bought a jar of peanut butter. I noticed the new shape of the jar, slightly indented just below the top and above the bottom, making a slight capital "I" shape. I compared it to the almost empty jar in the cabinet, and found it the same height, but two ounces less. This is not a new tactic, but in the past, it was purely about profit, now the manufacturers have excuses.

P.S. My Victory Gin bottle is now slightly less than a litre.

It cost more to make stuff nowadys. Companies are reacting by making packages smaller and lowering the amount of more expensive ingredients they contain.  This should not surpise you.  They protect their profits by charging the same for less and you have to buy more too.  It's a sign that corporations will protect their profit margins and that everything is now more expensive, except the cheap chinese labor that now has the job you used to have......
