Greg Biffle takes pole in qualifying for Hollywood Casino 400 – NASCAR news
It is now two weeks in a row that a non Chase driver has taken the pole as Greg Biffle qualified ahead of the pack in the Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway.
Biffle clocked in fastest with a lap time of 30.877 with a top speed of 174.887 mph.
Biffle’s teammate Carl Edwards will join him up the field in second place. Kyle Busch will be starting in the second row as he finished third.
Jack Roush will be a pleased man as his Roush Fenway cars made up 3 of the top 4 cars as Matt Kenseth joined his teammates at number four.
Kasey Kahne put in another good performance in his Red Bull as he rounded of the top 5 positions.
Paul Menard, who held pole last time out in Dover, finished at number 6. Denny Hamlin does not count himself out of the race yet and qualifying in 7th place is a significant improvement to his previous qualifying attempts.
Martin Truex Jr. and Mack Martin finished in 8th and 9th places
respectively.
Jeff Gordon rounded off the top10 as he looks to further improve his impeccable record at Kansas.
Ryan Newman qualified in 11th place and will be looking to turn in a better performance at Kansas than he did at Dover. Brad Keselowski finished in 12th place.
Points’ leader Kevin Harvick qualified in 14th place and will be nervous about fellow leader Carl Edwards in 2nd place. Harvick knows he will have to improve drastically in the race on Sunday.
After his win at Dover, Kurt Busch will be looking to build on his success and will be disappointed with a 17th place start. Dale Earnhardt Jr. followed him in 18th place, knowing that this race could be make-or-break
for him.
Jimmie Johnson, who had jumped from 10th to 5th in the points and revived his championship hopes, will be looking to make his way up the field from 20th.
For two weeks in a row, Tony Stewart qualified outside the top 20. He is the only Chase driver to qualify below the top 20 in the race. He trails Harvick and Edwards by just 9 points and knows the importance of this race to his title challenge. He will surely
be looking for a better finish than Dover.
Austin Dillon, making his first Cup appearance, will start from 26th place and will be the one to watch in the race.
The race starts on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at 2pm Eastern Time.
