Greg Chalmers heats it up in the playoffs
Australian Greg Chalmers has only one top ten finish on the PGA Tour this season. However, he has won twice in Australia this summer. Chalmers may not have won yet but here, in the playoffs, he has a chance to prove himself.
So far, it has been good for Greg, as he has made it to third playoff event. He starts the BMW Championship knowing the fact that a top-six finish would be nothing less than a million dollar lottery for him.
A top-six finish will not only guarantee his tour card for the next year but it will also send him to the all important Tour Championship.
Wining the playoffs is still possible for the Australian if he pulls of a victory at the BMW Championship, a victory will earn him $10 million. More than the prize money, it is the lucrative top-30 finish at the end of the playoffs which is on Chalmers’
mind.
Players who finish inside the top-30 in the FedEx Cup standings are automatically invited for the US Open, the Masters, and the British Open. Apart from that, these players are also invited to marquee events, such as Players Championship.
Chalmers has played only three majors among the last 33 majors that have taken place. This is a life time opportunity for him and he must avail it.
"I have everything to gain," Chalmers said. He, however, knows his goal and is not setting his eyes on the victory.
“Knowing I need top six actually makes it easier in that you just have to play great. I think it would be harder if I had to finish in the top 30 because you'd probably play with half a handbrake on for most of the week”.
Greg is looking forward to the event and knows finishing inside the top-six will not be easy. "It is a big basket of goodies at the end of the rainbow".
Experts are already predicting that there will be a birdie massacre at the Crooked Stick Golf Club and, with rain pouring down for the last few days, the greens would be softer than ever.
