Greg Chalmers in the leading position at Honda Classic
Excitement at Honda Classic reached new levels when amateurs and underdogs were able to grab the top notch positions.
Currently, the most notable among them is Tom Gillis, who with his 64 was able to join the league of the leading players with Justin Rose.
Apart from these two, the Aussie golf player Greg Chalmers was further able to strengthen his position by keeping his place five shots ahead of his other two competitors.
Gillis was able to secure his position with the help of six birdies that he scored in a single round.
With the intent of winning his first PGA Tour event, he was able to hole all of them from the 9th till the 14th spot.
In addition to this, Rose came as a perfect opponent and fired a 66 from his previously scored 68 in the first round.
Both these players could not have been happier, as they were able to end their day ahead of players like Rory McIlroy and Dicky Pride.
However, the victor of the day was the American golfer Brian Harman. He was able to shatter all his previous records with his flawless performance of firing a round of 61.
Harman was able to share the fifth position with the help of his ingenious shot play.
McIlroy was seven under overall with his round ending at 67. He is still bidding his luck to reach the number one spot.
So far, with his three birdies in last five holes, he is still hopeful for the number one breakthrough.
According to experts, it is going to be Harman who will dictate the direction of the game in due course. This is primarily because of the unusual shot selection he has been able to make.
At Honda Classic, he has been performing exceptionally well with the help of an eagle, eight birdies that then followed a bogey.
However, despite all this, he has been able to place himself in a much commendable position.
It is also important to mention here that the former FedEx Cup and Sony Open winners, Kyle Stanley and Johnson Wagner, once again failed to make their cut at Honda Classic.
Wagner was being considered hot favourite at Mayakoba Classic, but failed to meet the expectation standards placed on him.
