Greg Chappell all praise for MS Dhoni after the Chennai Test – Cricket News Update
Former cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 played one of the best knocks of his career during the first Test of the four-match series against Australia at Chennai and expressed that the wicketkeeper remains the best man to captain the Men in Blue.
The home team dismantled the Kangaroos by a handsome margin of eight wickets in the first Test to go 1-0 up in an all-important series.
The match was evenly poised at the half-way stage as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737.
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jharkhand-c800 took it on his own after Kohli’s dismissal and went on to score a marvellous double century to rescue the advantage for his side. The skipper scored 224 runs off merely 265 balls and struck 24 boundaries and half a dozen sixes. He was also named as the Player of the Match.
Chappell, who has coached the Indian team in past, was all praise for the wicketkeeper/batsman and said that it was Dhoni’s best knock in Test cricket. The former great is of the opinion that Dhoni constructed his innings brilliantly and shielded the tail-enders, much to the frustration of the Australian bowlers.
"This was the best I have seen him play in Test matches,” said the former Australian cricketer. ”His success on a crumbling Chennai track stems from his ability to strike the ball hard on pitches where the ball tends to keep low. The manner in which he attacked a tiring Australian attack, shielding the tailenders, truly makes him a match-winner.”
There has been a lot of criticism on Dhoni of late, with some of the former cricketers calling for a change in captaincy. However, Chappell feels that the hard-hitting batsman remains the best choice for the Men in Blue.
He expressed, “It is true that the Indian team under Dhoni looked below par during their tour Down Under, but he has answered his critics in the best possible way. In my book he remains the best man to lead India in all forms of the game.”
