Greg Chappell hails Dhoni as a captain – Cricket News Update

Blaming the submissive Indian culture for the current captaincy dearth in the Indian cricket team, the former Australian cricketer, who had coached the Indian team from 2005 to 2007, said that Dhoni is the best thing to have happened to Indian cricket in recent times.
"Dhoni is one of the most impressive young men that I have ever worked with,” said Chappell while addressing a gathering at a promotional event for his book 'Fierce Focus'.
“When he came into that Indian team, you just knew that he was a leader in the making. He was definitely someone who could make decisions... I think he is the best thing to have happened to Indian cricket in recent times," he added.
The 30-year-old Ranchi wicketkeeper batsman was initially appointed as the Indian T20 captain for the 2007 World T20 Championship, where he led the side to the top. Afterwards, BCCI selectors handed him the ODI and Test captaincies, as Dhoni's impeccable reign begun.
In his impressive captaincy record, Dhoni led the Indian team to the summit of ICC's Test rankings in December 2009, a position they held for almost two years before relinquishing it to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 last summer. Dhoni is also the first captain to lead his side to World Cup glory in their own backyard.
Chappell blamed excessive cricket, alongside BCCI's mismanagement for the recent slump in Dhoni’s captaincy.
"I think Indian cricket has worn him down as well,” said Chappell who was disappointed by Dhoni’s captaincy during the recently concluded tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. "...captaining all three formats...Dhoni played four years, captaining three years while being wicketkeeper and their key batsman,” he added further.
Dhoni has so far captained http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 37 Tests and 119 One Day Internationals - winning 17 and 67 respectively and is still seen as the best person to lead the side despite the recent spate of criticism.
