Greg Chappell takes a jibe at the Indian team, says Test cricket is pretty tough for them – Cricket News Update
Former Australian cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gregory-Stephen-Chappell-c60820, took a jibe at the Indian team after their catastrophic tour of Australia. The former Aussie international believes that the Indians are not interested in playing Test cricket, which according to him is quite evident
from their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the Kangaroos.
Chappell mocked the Men in Blue and said that they are only good playing Twenty20 cricket and making huge money through endorsements, as Test cricket is really tough for them.
Chappell said, “It was obvious from the start of the tour that the Indians weren't really interested in Test cricket, after the Australians showed that they were going to be a formidable foe. They can only make a lot of money playing 20-over cricket. Fifty-over
cricket they can sort of put up with.”
Many players in the Indian roster are really not into the 5-day game believes the 63-year-old. The former cricketer referred to his tenure as the head coach of team India and said, “Having worked with many of them and having been in the dressing room with
them, Test cricket was too hard for most of them. Test cricket for a lot of, not only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, a lot of subcontinent teams, I think it's pretty tough. It's very demanding mentally, physically and emotionally.”
The great Australian batsman also criticised the Indian culture. Chappell finds a lack of leadership qualities in the Indian players and said that it’s because of the culture in the country - which discourages anyone who dares to take the lead.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the Indian skipper, is the only man in the Indian team who has the traits of a leader asserts Chappell. Dhoni is one of those guys who dares to raise his head over the parapet, said the 63-year-old.
However, during the recent Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 the wicket-keeper batsman seemed to be giving into the Indian culture maintains Chappell. The former cricketer hopes India will overcome these issues because Test cricket – which is dwindling at a rapid
pace – needs the backing of a strong board such as the BCCI.
