Greg Colbrunn looking to help Boston Red Sox’s hitters – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox’s new hitting coach Greg Colbrunn is looking to help the hitters, reports bostonherald.com. For years, Red Sox had one of the most feared batters in their line-up, turning routine at-bats into endless odysseys. They had a knack for fouling
off the toughest pitches and they easily worked walks to force the opposing managers make mistakes with their bullpen by the middle innings.
Summarising, the Red Sox’s hitters were a nightmare for the Major League Baseball teams. However, everything changed in the last season as the Red Sox batting line-up failed to live up to the expectations. The team posted its worst season in nearly 50 years,
finishing at the bottom of the American League East Division standings table.
It looks like Colbrunn has a mountain to climb as he looks to restore Red Sox’s reputation in the next season. Colbrunn, who was named as the hitting coach by Manager John Farrell on Thursday, has played 13 seasons as a Major League Baseball player. He also
has enough experience in the New York Yankees’ Minor League system to be considered an up comer within the coaching ranks.
In a few days, Farrell is expected to name an assistant hitting coach as well. Long time Red Sox Minor League Instructor Victor Rodriguez is considered as a leading a candidate for the position. It will be interesting to see if Martinez and Colbrunn can
help the hitters give consistent results to help the Red Sox claim the AL East title.
“Our goal is to get to the point where we are grinding out at-bats,” Farrell said. “This is where Greg’s approach comes in to maintain that consistency and give us that end result, and that is quality at-bats that run pitchers’ pitch counts up to exploit
the weak link in a pitching staff. As long as you have a game plan and go up there and not give away at-bats.”
“When you get quality hitters throughout the lineup, it’s so hard for an opposing pitcher to come in and pitch,” Colbrunn said. “So, you just have hitters go in there and grind out each at-bat.”
It will be interesting to see if Colbrunn can make a positive impact for the Boston Red Sox in the next regular season.
