Greg Colbrunn named Boston Red Sox’s hitting coach – MLB News Update

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell named Greg Colbrunn as the team’s new hitting coach on Wednesday, reports csnne.com. Farrell, who had the opportunity to work for the Toronto Blue Jays after the club fired Bobby Valentine, has now nearly completed his
staff for the upcoming season.
The source claimed that Farrell is still looking for an assistant hitting coach. In an interview with a leading sports website, Farrell stated that is not sure who to pick for that position.
Victor Rodriguez could a possible option for the Red Sox. Rodriguez has been working as the Minor League hitting coordinator for the past six years. It seems he will be one of the leading candidates for the available vacancy.
“And the more we did our homework and found out things indirectly from Greg it became through that process that he was a strong candidate. As we went through the interview process it became very clear that not only does he have a wealth of knowledge as far
as hitting goes, but the ability to relate, at least in that interview process, it felt like that would certainly carry over to dealing with our hitters. His fundamental approach or approach to hitting is aligned with what we value,” said Farrell.
Colbrunn is an extremely experienced professional. As a player, he played 13 Major League Baseball seasons with the Marlins, Braves, Twins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Mariners and Expos. He called it a career in 2005 after making 11 appearances for the Rangers’
Triple A affiliate. Overall, he hit .289 with a decent .338 on base percentage. From 2007-2009 and 2011-2012, he was the Yankees’ Single A Charleston River Dogs’ hitting coach. In 2010, he was the manager of the team as he finished fourth in the 14
team South Atlantic Team last season.
This will be Colbrunn’s first Majors coaching job. It will be interesting to see if he can make the most of available opportunities to become a permanent member of the club. Several other teams also showed interest in him but he was happy to accept the Red
Sox’s offer.
