Greg Dobbs’ double RBIs help Florida Marlins defeat Chicago Cubs 6-3 – MLB Recap
Florida Marlins’ utility player, Greg Dobbs had a notable day with the bat as he went 1-for-1 with an average of .296 and had two RBIs in the Marlins’ 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago on July 14.
During the first inning, Emilio Bonifacio reached towards first base on an infield single but the rest of the players got out without contributing any run as Gaby Sanchez popped out to first base and Hanley Ramirez flied out to centre-field. Logan Morrison
was struck-out swinging at the top of the first inning.
Similarly, the Cubs’ offence also remained score-less at the bottom of the first inning as Kosuke Fukudome was grounded out to short-stop and Starlin Castro grounded out towards pitcher. However, the Cubs opened their scoring account in the second inning
and got a 1-0 lead when Marlon Byrd struck a one-run homer to centre-field.
Third to sixth inning of the game was in favour of the pitchers as they maintained their length by pitching the ball at the batters’ feet. The Marlins’ starter, Anibal Sanchez threw just over six innings with an ERA of 3.54 and struck-out six batters. He
permitted two runs on four hits with only one walk on his 99 pitches.
The Marlins’ manager, Jack McKeon said, “Be patient, be selective, get good pitches to hit. Consequently, they couldn't throw the ball over, so take it, take it, take it. Make them throw strikes.”
In the seventh inning, the Cubs took a 2-0 lead when Darwin Barney hit a sacrifice bunt towards right-field and Carlos Pena posted one run. Gaby Sanchez was struck-out swinging and Morrison flied out to right-field during the eighth inning and did not give
the Marlins their initial run.
The Marlins’ batters suddenly stepped on the gas and scored six runs at the top of the ninth inning. Mike Stanton, Mike Cameron, Brett Hayes, Bonifacio, Dewayne Wise and Omar Infante each contributed six runs jointly to end their six-run campaign. On the
other side, Tony Campana scored the final run for the Cubs to reduce their lead 6-3.
After having a persuasive win, the Marlins are now leading the four-game series 1-0 at Chicago.
