Greg Dobbs sparks as Florida Marlins humiliate Washington Nationals 11-2 – MLB Update
Greg Dobbs drove in his career-high five runs on Monday, July 26 as the Florida Marlins comprehensively beat Washington Nationals 11-2 at Nationals Park.
Dobbs tremendous performance came as he was not even in the line-up when the game kicked off, but Gaby Sanchez’ injury brought Dobbs in the game. "It was a good move, right?" said McKeon with a smile after the game. "He's in there tomorrow. I'm not changing.
It's perfect, give Gaby an extra day."
Of special significance was the two that he got in the 5-run ninth inning. That buoyed him, and has now made him a serious contender for the upcoming games. "We'll exchange a run for an out any day, I think," Dobbs said. "I would, as a hitter."
Greg started the game with a run that he got in the first inning against Jordan Zimmermann. That imbued the Florida Marlins with confidence. Ricky Nolasco pitched with full force to maintain the lead and his strategy worked out well.
Dobbs stunned the crowd with another RBI single in the third followed by Logan Morrison’s double that took the Marlins lead against the straining Nationals to 4-0.
Nolasco played his due role with the strong innings being tossed at the seemingly incapacitated Nationals’ offence. Dobbs, on the other hand, drove in another single to take the lead to 5-0 for the Marlins in the fifth inning.
Laynce Nix was the first to score for the Nationals, in the fifth and then Michael Morse took it to 5-2 in the sixth inning. Nolasco gave up two hits in the sixth inning, but Dobbs drove in another single in the seventh to make it 6-2 for the Marlins.
As Burke Badenhop relieved Nolasco, his eighth inning was a shut-out followed by five-run ninth inning that the Marlins hitters executed without much difficulty against Henry Rodriguez.
John Buck drove in a single and Dobbs drove in a two-run homer to score his fifth run in the game followed by Hanley Ramirez and Mike Cameron’s single that took the lead to 11-2 for the Marlins.
All this was disappointing for the Nationals. "I know we're a better ballclub than we've shown at times," Johnson said. "When one of your pitchers doesn't do what he's capable of doing, when one of your relievers doesn't do what he's capable of doing, it
gets ugly, and it's painful for everybody in this clubhouse."
Jose Ceda pitched a shut-out ninth to give the Marlins a comfortable 11-2 win in the first of three-game series against the struggling Nationals.
It will be interesting to see how the Marlins carry their winning momentum forward into their next game against the Nationals.
