Greg Eden declines two-year deal offered by Castleford Tigers – Rugby League News
West Yorkshire based English club, Castleford Tigers, has stated that their young and talented utility back, Greg Eden, has declined a two-year professional contract offered to him by the club. Officials at the club have confirmed Eden’s decision in a statement
released on their website on Monday, September 5.
Castleford Tigers’ head of youth development program, Steve Gill, has expressed his disappointment on Eden’s move. He said, “We're disappointed that Greg has declined our offer of a two-year full time professional contract and sees his future elsewhere.”
Gill added that the club’s decision to the hand over the two-year professional contract was part of the Tigers announced policy regarding the young players. He added that the club offered Gill the right kind of playing and training environment, which would
have helped him to further develop his game and establish himself at the Super League level.
Gill further added, “However we respect his decision. He will always be a product of the Castleford youth system and we wish him all of the very best of luck for the future.”
It is expected that the versatile backs player Eden, who can play at both fullback and centre position, will join Huddersfield Giants.
The Wakefield born Eden made his professional Rugby League debut for the Tigers during the 2011 Challenge Cup tournament. He earned his debut for the senior team following his exceptional performance for the Tigers in the Rugby League Nine competition. He
has played two games for the Tigers against the Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors, respectively.
The 20-year-old Eden joined the Tigers Under-20s academy in the 2010 season. Later at the end of the campaign, he had a brief stint with the Australian Rugby League outfit, Temora Dragons. He termed the opportunity to play in the Australia as his greatest
achievement.
Besides Dragons, Eden has also played for the Half Arces, Lock Lane and Castleford Panthers amateur rugby league club. For a brief period, he was also associated with the Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
