Greg Emslie, Nikita Robb clinch their titles in style: 2011 SA Surfing Championships
Greg Emslie won the premier open men’s title at the 2011 SA Surfing Championships at Seal Point on Sunday.
He secured the highest points throughout the five heats at the event.
After the heats, Emslie said the SA Championship is considered to be one of the most vital events and to get your name on the buoyant trophy that dates back to 1960’s is an immense driving force.
He further added, “Before going into the final my Border team-mate Wayne Monk, who also had two titles, and I decided that one of us must win to keep the number of names on the trophy exclusive. It obviously worked because I won and Wayne came second!”
Most importantly, he rode on a standard board GEO1 throughout the five heats of the SA Surfing Championships.
Meanwhile, Nikita Robb of South Africa took home the first SA Open Women’s title at the 2011 SA Surfing Championships. She was very fast, furious and agile in her surfing heat on Sunday.
After the race, she said that capturing the SA Open Women’s Crown and getting your name on the memorable cup along with the grace of SA Surfing was an incredible payback for her.
“I rode my standard 5’7” rounded pin – the A21 model – and it was the best board I could have been on in the point-break waves! I’ve struggled with boards in the past but since working with Spider they are right on the button,” said Robb.
She claimed that Spider has been the real influence on her overall surfing styles and success, so she would definitely feel pleasure being around him.
In the meantime, well-known surfboard shaper Spider Murphy has said that both Greg and Nikita were stunning in their heats at Seal Point this weekend.
He said it was a great please for him to be able to help the world-class surfers to accomplish their targets and he will definitely be looking forward to more fabulous heats from them. Murphy is the former SA Masters champion.
One of the most substantial traits about Emslie and Robb is that they are very dynamic and acrobatic surfers while surfing alongside the toughest heats in the sea waves.
