Greg Hartman making significant progress after Shanghai crash – Motocross Update
Greg Hartman, the professional freestyle motocross (FMX) rider, sustained injuries after crashing during the FMX demo practice session at KIA X Games Asia last month in Shanghai and according to the latest report his recovery is going quite well.
The 27-year-old is alert, responsive and making good progress after the crash. Talking to a leading sports network, the Executive Director of Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF), Aaron Cooke said, “Doctors are pleased with his progress and the surgery to repair
his broken femur has gone very well. The head injury is being watched very closely and his neurosurgeon feels confident that he will be cleared to fly home in the next week or so.”
Hartman was forced to miss the recent edition of the Asian X Games due to the unfortunate accident. The crashed had occurred when he was practicing for the FMX demo in Shanghai. During practice, he over-jumped the ramp-to-ramp set accidently. He was forced
to jump off the bike to avoid a crash landing, but that hardly made a difference as he still ended up sustaining numerous injuries.
The on-site paramedics rushed to the Cleveland-based rider to tend to his injuries. However, it turned out that the injuries were more serious than initially thought. Without wasting time, the medical staff rushed him to the Changhai hospital in Shanghai.
The medical report revealed that the FMX star had sustained severe injuries. He was suffering from a head injury, right femur fracture, right shoulder dislocation, right humorous fracture and multiple finger fractures. The doctors had to put him into a medically
induced coma for several days to monitor his brain activity.
This is not the first time that Hartman has found himself getting bedridden because of a head injury. In 2008, he was participating in the Cleveland stop of the Dew Tour when he crashed on a ramp-to-ramp setup and ended up with a head trauma in the form
of a brain hemorrhage.
Hartman’s wife flew in to Shanghai a week ago to join him. The FMX athlete is awaiting approval from the doctors to fly back to his home of Greencastle, Pennsylvania.
