Greg Hartman suffers severe injuries in Shanghai: KIA X Games Asia
The professional freestyle motocross (FMX) rider, Greg Hartman, was injured on Thursday, April 28. He suffered a fall while practicing for the FMX demo at KIA X Games Asia which is currently being held in Shanghai, China. He will not be participating in
the upcoming action sports event this year due to this unfortunate accident.
While practicing for the FMX demo for Asian X Games, the 27-year-old Cleveland resident over-jumped the ramp-to-ramp setup accidently and was forced to jump off his bike in order to avoid a crash-landing. However, this did not prevent him from sustaining
injuries.
The on-site medical staff got to Hartman immediately in order to take care of the injuries. However, the FMX star had apparently injured himself seriously. Hence, he was rushed off to the Changhai hospital in Shanghai for further examination and medical
help from the doctors.
After further examination in the hospital, it was determined that the FMX athlete had sustained severe injuries. His injuries included a head injury, right femur fracture, right shoulder dislocation, right humorous fracture and multiple finger fractures.
Putting him in medically-induced coma, the doctors are monitoring his injury with CT scans and get a better understanding of his condition. The reports uptil now are very encouraging, with a minimal swelling in the brain.
Fortunately, Hartman is in good hands. The host of X Games are considered one of the best in business when it comes to taking care of their injured athletes.
Furthermore, The Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF) is also actively involved in ensuring that Hartman is currently receiving the best possible treatment. Their ability to act promptly is their biggest asset. Working with Hartman’s wife and the other Asia X Games
crew on the ground in China, they are trying to ensure that the injured FMX rider does not face any sort of problem during his treatment. It will be helping out by negotiating through bills, bearing the expenses that are not covered by insurance, pay for the
flights and accommodation for family members of the injured athlete. They will be aiding Hartman to get back to the top form by granting money for rehabilitation.
ARF provides charitable medical and educational assistance to the athletes of FMX, BMX and skateboarding. It welcomes donation from people and utilises these to help the action sports athletes to deal with severe injuries. It has granted over US$500,000
since its inception in 2008.
Originally from Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Hartman has been active in the competitive scene since 2001. He has earned quite a reputation for himself over the years. His career highlights include the gold medal in Dubai and silver medal at the X Games in
Brazil during 2008. Just recently he competed on the FMXonline.com Tour and managed to find a place on the podium in almost every event.
