Greg Henderson to start the 2013 season at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour
Greg Henderson of Team Lotto Belisol will lead his National side at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour 2013 and he is positive to kick-off the New Year in style by winning the Australian event.
Henderson is hopeful to find the right legs secure the top spot at the four-day race before moving to the UCI Inaugural event, Santos Tour Down Under where he will represent the UCI debutant side, Team Lotto Belisol to mark the World Tour debut for
the team.
He played a major role in team’s 2012 season and had to sacrifice his own chances to help the team leader Andre Greipel, who managed to win three stages of the Tour de France 2012.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff and Team Lotto-Belisol both battled for the World Tour spot and it was believed that either one of the two teams will be given the World Tour licence for the new season because of the tough competition.
Whereas, UCI shocked the cycling world by depriving Team Katusha from its World Tour status and both Team Saxo-Tinkoff and Team Lotto were given the World Tour status for the season ahead.
"Melbourne is my second home town and when I race around here I get as many "Hendys" called out as anywhere else in the world. I have a fairly big fan base here now so I feel like it is home and I enjoy racing in Melbourne," said Henderson.
"Of course the Herald Sun Tour has such a huge prestige. It has been going for so many years. It has been on and off of late, and it is a bit shorter which is unfortunate, but it is a very historic race”.
The 36-year noted that the Jayco Herald Sun Tour will fine-tune his form for the bigger goals of the season including the National Championships followed by the Santos Tour Down Under where he will be seen in a supporting role for Greipel as the first
major goal of the season.
Jayco Herald Sun Tour will kick-off with a 4.8 kilometre individual time trial event on January 3rd in and will witness all the major cyclists from across the globe.
