Greg Inglis may not play for Australian outfit in Four Nations Series – Rugby League
It has been confirmed on Friday, October 7, that Greg Inglis, the centre for South Sydney, will not play for Kangaroos in the one-off Test against New Zealand on Sunday, at the Ausgrid Stadium, in Newcastle, after he has sustained an ankle injury.
With the untimely injury of the player, his inclusion in the Gillette’s Four Nation Series is also uncertain. Willie Tonga of Parramatta has been taken on board as Inglis’ replacement and will pair up with Chris Lawrence of Wests Tigers to fill in for the
centre’s position.
Meanwhile, Tony Williams will make his Test debut along with Keith Galloway of Wests Tigers and Newcastle’s winger, Akuila Uate on Sunday.
Brett Stewart of Manly Sea Eagles has also withdrawn from Four Nations because of his prolonged knee injury, along with his brother, Glenn Stewart, who finished off his term with the club a week earlier.
Brett was battling with Darius Boyd to become the deputy to Billy Slater but his ailment did not allow that to happen. However, Glenn had taken the decision to spend some time with his girlfriend, who was not feeling too well.
Matt Scott and Paul Gallen will be seen filling up for the front-row role on field for Tim Sheens’ squad.
Manly's Anthony will assume lock’s spot whereas Sam Thaiday and Penrith's Luke Lewis will fill in with the second row spots.
The one-off Test in Newcastle will be Darren Lockyer’s last match in Australia as the captain of his pack.
The following players are on board for Australia’s squad for the Four Nations Series:
Billy Slater, Akuila Uate, Willie Tonga, Chris Lawrence, Darius Boyd, Darren Lockyer (capt), Johnathan Thurston, Paul Gallen, Cameron Smith, Matt Scott, Luke Lewis, Sam Thaiday, Anthony Watmough. Int: Cooper Cronk, Keith Galloway, David Shillington and Tony
Williams.
All teams are naming their finalised squads for the Four Nations Series, which will be staged later this month. NRL coaches are on a hiring spree, and a major exodus of talent from Super League berths to the land down under has been seem, which is the major
cause of concern for Rugby Football League.
