Greg Jackson: I might support Jon Jones in his brawl against Rashad Evans – UFC news
Greg Jackson, one of the most well known trainers of mixed martial arts, has decided to support Jon Jones, the current light heavyweight UFC title owner, in his upcoming brawl against Rashad Evans.
Jackson is one of the most prolific trainers in the whole of MMA. He has generated brawlers who have captured almost every available and certified title in Ultimate Fighting Championship. His expertise in the sport is evident from the fact that he is the
inventor and maker of the Gaidojutsu style of martial arts.
A man of such stature and calibre who has converted 81 percent of his pupils into lethal champions is going through a hard and confusing odyssey since he is not clear whether to support Jon Jones or Rashad Evans in their upcoming bout on April 21, 2012 at
UFC 145.
Greg trained both of these men together when they arrived in UFC as rookie. Rashad, Jon, and Greg had been fast friends so much so that they have shared moments with each other both at the sparring ground and outside that they have never experienced with
anyone else.
The climax came when Rashad left Jones and the camp when latter broke his promise and said that he will take on Rashad if it is for the gold. Both men had a psychological understanding that they will not brawl each other no matter what happens but the charm
of title and money changed everything.
It is this reason why old Greg initially said that he will not stand in anyone’s corner in this upcoming dual between two of his students and frankly the best. However, it seems that his mind set is changing since recently in an interview he mentioned that
he might support Jon Jones in his upcoming venture.
Jackson said, “I'm going back and forth now because I have to think about what it means to be on a team. Are we just a collection of friends that train together? For me, it's much more than that. It means something to be on this team, and it means something
to have team-mates.”
He added that, “I don't know, I'm leaning toward cornering Jon right now. Even though it's something that I don't want to do, it might end up that way.”
Rashad became eligible to fight Jones after collecting a unanimous decision over the young Phil Davis in UFC on Fox: Evans vs. Davis pay-per-view. Jones will put his title on the line against Rashad at Philips Arena situated in Atlanta, Georgia.
