Greg Monroe on song as Detroit Pistons crush the Charlotte Bobcats 109-85 – NBA Recap
On Thursday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena, the visiting Detroit Pistons crushed the Charlotte Bobcats 109-85 in what was a completely one sided affair.
This tyrannizing win for the Pistons completed their four game road trip in a spectacular way. It was the 19th time this season that the Bobcats have lost by 20 or more points and concluded a 14th consecutive
loss for the home side who now fell to an even worse record of 7-50.
The Bobcats also go second on the list for the all time worst point differential, losing most of their games with an average of 13.3 point difference which was only topped by the Dallas Mavericks back in the 1992-93 season.
Greg Monroe notched up a double-double with 25 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds in the game. Brandon Knight was not far behind for the Pistons with 21 points which included 9 coming from long range. He also had 7 assists to
his name on the night. Jason Maxiell contributed 17 points. Ben Gordon and Will Bynum both came off the bench to score 9 points each.
For the Bobcats, D.J. Augustin and Derrick Brown were the leading scorers with 13 points each. DJ White came off the bench to add 12 points. Bismack Biyombo and Kemba Walker had 9 points each for Charlotte.
The Pistons out-rebounded the Bobcats 43-30 and also dominated the offensive glass by grabbing 13 rebounds, 7 more then what Charlotte had. Detroit also made a meal of the Bobcats in transition as they notched up 21 fast break
points as compared to their opponents who could only get 10.
Detroit started the game off with 6 quick Maxiell points as they raced to a 6-1 lead. The Bobcats then settled in to get back into the contest and made it 10-10 with 8:14 remaining in the first quarter. For the next 4 and half
minutes, Pistons held the Bobcats scoreless while adding 8 points into their account. Charlotte again rallied back to chip the lead down to 4 at the end of the first 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, Bobcats remained 4 points behind till the 9:09 mark. Pistons went on a 20-6 run till the 3:09 mark to lead 48-30 in the game. However the Bobcats closed out the half on a 7-0 run but the ample advantage of
the visitors was only cut to 12.
The lead remained in double figures for the rest of the night as the Pistons, were able to extend their advantage to 30 by the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter of the game the advantage was further extended to 36
with the score of 107-71. The Pistons were never troubled in the second half. Detroit eased their foot off the pedal in the finishing stages as they closed this one out 24 points ahead of their hosts.
