Greg Norman - a Designer playing for the Design
Greg Norman is referred to as ‘the Shark’ of golf. Primarily because he has the ability of adjusting himself to different feeding habits.
In other words, he has this flawless tendency of switching his niche without any considerable effect on his temperament.
Similar are the news that are making rounds for the 57-year-old golfer Norman. He is just not a golfer who has so far claimed up to 88 professional wins in his career.
He has also been the designer of some of the most panoramic and mind boggling golf courses present in the world.
With the Mayakoba Golf Classic getting underway in Mexico, experts are speculating whether Norman has an extra advantage, since he holds the certificate of designing the course also.
However, in a competition when Norman is confronted with players like Johnson Wagner, Mike Weir and Will Claxton, it will definitely not be an easy task for Norman.
Wagner arrives in Mexico after winning the Sony Open in Hawaii in January. Moreover, he tied for the second position at the Humana Challenge in California.
With his portfolio turning increasingly eventful, Mayakoba is expected to be the next hot ground for Wagner.
Then we have Mike Weir. He has been encountering some troubles in trying to make an impression.
Furthermore, he has also failed to make his presence in some mainstream golf events that took place recently. He missed the Pebble Beach because of the elbow surgery he underwent at that time.
This was followed by his non-availability of getting a sponsor exemption that contributed to his disqualification from Northern Trust Open.
Hence, on the whole, Mike seems to be an easy contender for a golfer like Norman.
Interestingly, out of all this what is the key area that can be said to be the turning point for Norman?
It is precisely his command on the golf course of El Camaleon that can provide him a leading edge in the competition.
He knows the tricks, he knows the dynamics and above all, he has knowledge about the loopholes - where to tee it off and how to tee it off.
Answers to all these questions lie in some hidden groove of his brain. In short, he is the maestro of the golf course.
With all this knowledge, Norman can easily acquire a leading leverage in the competition.
However, on the flip side, there are a couple of other associated aspects that cannot be neglected at the same time.
Norman underwent a recent shoulder surgery and according to pundits, this is something that can seriously affect his performance.
At this age, such surgeries can adversely affect the performance of any golfer. Norman has so far won 20 PGA Tour events and this record helps him in distinguishing from others.
He has proved his dexterity in not only playing golf, but also in designing the place where this game can be played with utmost ease and convenience.
However, this is not the first time Norman has been affected with such injuries. He has been going through such a routine since a couple of years and he is more or less accustomed to it now.
Other than this, a multi-enterprise owner like Norman does not play golf for the sake of grabbing the cheque or total purse of the event.
For him it is more about finding an appropriate activity that can help him utilise his spare time in the most effective manner possible.
