Greg Norman accepts Honorary Membership at Turnberry Resort
The 57-year-old Greg Norman has been awarded Honorary Membership for the Turnberry Resort for his huge contributions to the game of golf and dedication in portraying the venue as one of the best golfing destinations in the world.
The presentation was held on Wednesday evening, a day before the start of the 26th edition of the Senior Open Championship, presented by Rolex, at the same venue.
After accepting the life-time membership, the Australian showed his gratitude towards the course officials. According to him, he rates Turnberry as one of his favourite golf courses that he has ever played on.
He also holds the course record of 63 that he set during the 1986 British Open Championship, his first major title victory, among the two, of his career.
According to him, it was one of the best two or three rounds that he has ever played in his career. It was a great show of skills and techniques, especially when the course conditions were really difficult to play on.
Some of the golf commentators rate it as the toughest conditions at links course in any of the four editions of the Open Championship held at the venue.
“I get excited when I come to links courses and I get excited when I come to Turnberry because no matter what the weather conditions dish out to you, you try to figure out how to get the golf ball around the golf course”.
Norman struggled in the past few years because of a shoulder injury. However, he now feels pretty much back into shape and ready to outshine his opponents at Ailsa links.
“My shoulder is back to 100 per cent and I'm physically fit and I'm back to the strength I was three years ago,” he said.
“It's taken me a long time to get there post‑surgery but I'm there now and now I can look forward to just working and building up more strength on my body to maybe practise a little bit more”.
He also stated that he had been coming to the area for a very long time and always enjoys playing golf against some of the best players in the world.
