Greg Norman and Fred Couples to announce the captain's assistant for the Presidents Cup 2011 next year
Greg Norman said that he would be announcing the name of his second captain’s assistant next year.
According to latest reports, Norman is titled as the International Team Captain for the Presidents Cup and announced his first assistant captain as Frank Nobilo on Monday.
The announcement was made at the Captains’ Day that was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne at the 29th of November. The event in Australia thus officially graded the preparatory period before The Presidents Cup for the year 2011.
With the official countdown begun on the 29th, The U.S Captain announced his choice for the two assistant captains as well. Fred Couples publicized the names of Jay Haas along with Michael Jordan as his pick for the upcoming, much anticipated Presidents
Cup in 2011.
Greg Norman as the International Captain, declared Frank Nobilo as his first pick with the second yet to be decided.
Previously, the Captains were required to choose only one captain’s assistant but with 2011 approaching, the requirement changed to 2 in count. The recent amendment was announced in May 2010, when Norman and Couples were chosen as Captains for next year’s
event.
According to the U.S Captain, Jay Haas and Michael Jordan appeared immediately in Couples mind as possible candidates. He said that Hass and Jordan played a vital role in 2009 when the U.S. Team achieved success and said that their presence was required
this time as well.
Couples discussed his attacking line up and said that Hass and Jordan’s presence will ensure the U.S. side in maintaining a firm hold over the Cup from 2009 as they step in Melbourne.
As far as Haas and Couples are concerned, they have been the closest of friends for many years. The captain admires Hass’s leadership qualities and lethal instincts while he regards Jordan as one of the best athletes of all time.
On Monday, Couples announced that having Jordan stand beside him as an assistant captain was a great honour. He said that Jordan would serve as a great asset for the team and his presence would motivate and inspire the team.
"I’m actually very happy to aid the U.S. Team to attain a win in Australia.” Jordan said.
“The 2009 Presidents Cup was the best part of my career, and being called back to be a captain’s assistant for 2011 by Fred is just great,” said Haas.
