Greg Norman motivates Adam Scott after his Open Championship’s defeat
The legendary Greg Norman has confirmed that he spoke to Adam Scott the same night when the 32-year-old Australian faced one of the disgraceful defeats in the history of the game at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, a fortnight ago.
Norman told that he asked the eight-time PGA Tour winner to embrace the defeat and move on for better prospects in his career.
According to Norman, he did his best to make him feel relaxed and forget about whatever happened at The Open Championship.
Scott, who had a four-stroke lead while standing at the 15th tee during the final round of the year’s third major, bogeyed each of the final four holes to lose to Ernie Els by one stroke in the end.
It was a shocking moment for everyone who watched him play throughout the tournament. Even his name was stencilled on the winning medal, which was later removed.
Therefore, he was in a state of a shock and was not even able to put a fake smile on his face while talking to the media at the end of the tournament.
Norman said that he told Scott not to think about the final four holes, rather, he should remember how he played the first 68 holes.
"You can't walk away from it with a negative fashion or a negative reflection because, the other thing I said to him, 'Adam if you want to be the top of the heap, if you want to be one of the top players in the world like any corporation wants to be the
top corporation in the world, you are going to get the knocks, you are not going to have everything all your way’”.
According to Norman, such incidents can happen to anyone, as it has happened to many big names in the sport such as Tom Watson, Tiger Woods and Lee Trevino.
"Embrace the adversity in life and learn about how you can improve on it in whatever way you can," Norman said.
He now expects Scott to make a strong comeback and record his major victory in no time.
