Greg Norman returned to Champions Tour after three years
The 20-time PGA Tour winner and renowned golf course designer, Greg Norman, announced his return to the Champions Tour after a three-year absence. He teed off at the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
However, Norman shared that he does not plan to add any further events to his busy schedule.
He also told that he confirmed to appear at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh just to visit the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center located near to the venue.
In the past, he had a few surgeries at the UPMC. According to him, he received a clearance from the UPMC doctors and received an invitation from the title sponsor, Constellation Energy, to participate in the event, to which he replied by a nod.
"I've left a few dollars at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center," Norman said, on Wednesday, via telephone. "I've had a few surgeries there".
While giving an explanation about his preference to stay out of the Champions Tour, he said that he enjoys working in the business world that includes golf course designing, clothing, real estate and much more.
"I've performed fairly well on the golf course all around the world and I enjoy playing in front of people," Norman said.
"Will it prompt me to play more? Not really. I'm very happy and content where I am in life right now, I don't play a lot of golf because I enjoy doing other things in the world of business”.
Norman did not look very optimistic about his performance in the event, even before he stepped onto the course.
The golf commentators also believed that the mark is quite difficult for him to achieve because of his lack of practice and interest in the game in the recent years.
However, he was definitely excited about getting a ticket to the TPC Sawgrass, which he would have received had he succeeded in winning the tournament this year.
According to the tournament rules, the winner of the event each year gets a chance to play the PGA Tour’s The Players Championship.
However, Norman could not get a chance to return back to the place where he registered a win in 1994, with a record score of 24-under par.
He finished the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship tied at the 53rd position, with rounds of 67, 74, 73 and 71.
