Greg Norman’s bumpy landing at the Swiss airport
The Australian golf legend, Greg Norman landed at the Geneva Airport in a hurry. His plane suffered mechanical problems on the way and he had to land in an emergency at the Swiss airport.
He decided to fly into Switzerland in his private jet. This is one side of Norman’s life that many fans are not aware of. He often flies to his golf destinations and this one was no different.
This time, however, his nose gear malfunctioned while landing and folded up on touchdown. The airport declared emergency and shut down for half an hour. During this time, his nose gear was propped up and the runway was cleared after his plane was towed away.
He described the incident after his arrival at the Crans-sur-Sierre, the famous Swiss village. He said that the plane went under severe turbulence and started shaking.
In his words, “We were going 60, 70, 80 knots, the wheel went 90 degrees, the nose started kangaroo-ing and stuff in the cabin was going everywhere”.
During the trip, he was accompanied by his wife Kristen who was with him during the accident.
Norman was dismissive of the whole incident, saying that he has suffered a lot worse than just a broken nose gear. He claimed that he his plane has been hit by lightening and once his engine exploded on takeoff.
However, this accident with the airplane is least of his worries. He is in Switzerland for the OMEGA European Masters. This is an important event and therefore has attracted many talented players.
Norman will have to compete with players like Paul Lawrie and Paul Hanson for the top place in the event. Both these players are fresh from excellent golf events and have the confidence required to win the event.
Paul Lawrie has won the recent Johnnie Walker Championship. This tournament proved to be an easy win for Lawrie who played a top-notch game from the very start. He vanquished the competition with ease.
Similarly, Hanson has just posted a top-ten finish at a major tournament. He finished seventh at the PGA Championship.
