Greg Oden undergoes the same knee procedure that helped Kobe Bryant - NBA Update
Greg Oden’s revival in NBA is not a lost cause yet.
In the hope to regain strength in his legs, the injury stricken big underwent the same magical knee treatment this month, which has done wonders for Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant and New York Yankees ace Alex Rodriguez in the past.
The 24-year-old was selected as the 1st overall draft by Portland Trail Blazers in 2007, but his career finished before starting due to a string of injuries. In the last five years, Oden has had 4 surgeries before being finally waived off by the Trail Blazers this season.
He underwent the last surgery on his left knee in February and had originally planned to have the procedure after a complete recovery, but as per the sources close to the situation, his doctor advised to get it done now as it would help in quick healing. That was followed by the procedure known as Orthokine in New York two weeks ago.
About a week ago, Greg admitted that he pretty much became an alcoholic in the 2nd year of his career, the time when he had to spend most of the time in hospitals and at home. For a brief period in his 3rd year, fate was kind to him and he managed to show off his skills. But that span was short lived as a micro fracture again sidelined him from the limelight.
This procedure, which Oden has undergone, reduces inflammation and has almost no side effect. Although it is still experimental, the results are highly encouraging and one such example is Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba underwent the procedure last year on his troubled knee and his performance as visibly improved this year.
Oden will be hoping that the treatment creates the same sort of Magic for him. He hasn’t played since 2009 and after appearing in just 82 games during his 5 years of career, he seems to be desperate to make a new beginning.
Recently Oden’s agent also revealed his desire of making a comeback in NBA with the Miami Heat, and if that happens, the world may finally see the talent which never managed to blossom.
