Greg Ouellette ousts Scott Lipsky in the second qualifier round – Hall of Fame Championships 2011
Absolutely no real problems for the fourth seed American, Greg Ouellette, who disposed of his fellow compatriot, Scott Lipsky in the second round of the qualifying draws of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Sunday.
The 25-year-old American dominated his opponent all the way through the 45 minutes matchup, defeating Lipsky in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, to make it into the final round of qualifying draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
World Tour 250 tournament.
The contest appeared pretty much one-sided right from the beginning, with Ouellette having an aggressive start to put his opponent under pressure early. The fourth seeded American remained very pro-active in the entire matchup
and beat his country-fellow in a convincing manner to prove his dominance. Lipsky hung in the opener for some time before dropping it but failed to pose any serious resistance in the second set, losing the contest in a humiliating way.
Ouellette’s serve certainly lacked something to be desired, as it reached a mere precision of 53 per cent in the game, but the American was phenomenal with winning points on his serve. He secured 20 out of 23 first serve points
and never dropped serve in the entire contest to move into the final round qualifiers of the tournament.
Lipsky’s bleak game was exacerbated by his poor serve as well, with the American delivering just 57 per cent of first serve on target and conceding six costly double faults to assist Ouellette to his victory. Lipsky had two chances
to break the opponent’s serve in the matchup but he utterly failed to convert any of the opportunities to remain at a disadvantage.
Ouellette took off the opener in style, breaking the opponent’s serve early to lead 4-2 and then carried on with his impetus to push Lipsky out of the set. He secured 13 out of 13 first serve points to remain on top of the game
successfully defended the break point he faced from Lipsky in the seventh game. Ouellette closed out the first set at 6-4 to get the upper hand in the contest and then carried out his demolition job in the following set as well.
Ouellette proved absolutely merciless in the set number two, breaking Lipsky’s serve on three occasions to eject him out of the competition. He rocketed away to victory at 6-1, booking a date with Jimmy Wang of Chinese Taipei in
the final round qualifiers for a place in the main draws.
