Greg Owen starts magnificently at Seaside Course
They say hard work pays off at some point in life and the best example for that is the Englishman Greg Owen. Owen opened up at the McGladrey Classic with a brilliant round of six-under 64, and is just two shots behind the joint leaders, Bud Cauley and Marco
Dawson.
It was a flawless display of golfing skills from the Englishman, who played last year on the Web.com tour.
Owen was very disappointed and disheartened last year but this year brought him success. He is in the safe zone, considering the money tour list. He sits at the 93rd position currently.
Greg Owen is yet to win on the tour just like many others who are on the field at the Seaside course.
The Englishman started off at Seaside course brilliantly with three birdies on the first four holes. Owen could only manage three more birdies on the next fourteen holes but he always remained in control of his game.
'I'm working really hard this week and it's starting to pay off,' said Owen. Greg’s performance had gone so low that he had to go through the qualifying school to return back to the PGA Tour.
'I struggled the last four, maybe five years,' Owen said. 'This year I just played really solid. I've putted better, I've holed out better. And (hopefully) there's still more to come'.
A victory at the McGladrey Classic will not only be his first victory on the PGA Tour but it will also land him an opportunity to play at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China.
The Englishman’s strength lies in his iron work and that was a treat to watch on Thursday at the Seaside course. The longest putt that Owen had to make was from just eleven feet, his approach shots were right in the money.
'If the wind blows and the sun comes out this afternoon those greens could get really quick,' Owen added.
English golfers love such conditions, as they have been playing in windy conditions all their life. If the weather turns out to an English weather, then Owen has a big chance.
