  1. I'm going with Ellis in this one too. The level of competition in Ellis's era was much greater.

  2. I'll be the odd man out here, and say Page-the Page that crushed Marty Monroe, Quick Tillis, and Gerry Coetzee. He'd be too big and tall for Ellis. Page had brittle hands that sometime left him fighting one handed, like against Berbick and Tubbs.

  3. jimmy would win this one either on points or late stoppage, and would be a mile ahead on the scorecards too.

  4. Potentially, Greg Page should knock the light hitting "little heavyweight who could'', silly.  But he wouldn't.

I can count the number of times Page entered the ring in shape and have fingers left over.   Cant see any reason he would be in top shape for Ellis.  I think someone else gave him the idea to box.  I used to get sick when I heard the comparisons to Muhammad Ali.    Let me tell you the only thing they have in common.   Both are from Louisville KY.  Both stand 6'3".   Thus ends the similarities.

Page might score an early knockdown.   He had a decent jab and, once in a while, he would actually use it to set up the heavy right,  like he did with James "Quick" Tillis.

Ellis, already ahead on points, would get up and continue the fight knowing Page is slowing as the fight progresses.  At the end of the fight Ellis will have done enough to earn a comfortable decision.

    Ellis by decision in 15

  5. I always liked Greg Page but I was always frustrated that he never seemed to be in top condition. He was quick despite his gut that he usaully carried into a fight.

I think Ellis competed at a more competitive era for heavyweights. He was good, not  great. I think Ellis out works him and dominates the later rounds to win by dec.

  6. I always marvelled at Page's tenacity and strength. . .

But I think Ellis could have outboxed him over 15 rounds. . .. if Page could have even lasted 15.  Ellis spent his youth sparring with Clay. . . .that's quite a pedigree.
