Greg Wilcox grabs lead on Day 3 of 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship – Sailing Update
Sailors of the 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship enjoyed convincing sailing on the first two days of the regatta but as they set their boats to launch during the third day on the Vallensbaek waters in Denmark, they were welcomed without any breeze on the
race course.
The feet consisting of 145 sailors stayed ashore waiting for some winds to build up so that they could begin their competition on the racing area. There was a strong wind at the start of the day but it died at the time of race proceedings.
However, the race committee asked the sailors to launch their boats when they felt a light breeze over the racing area.
The fleet started the first race under lighter winds with the hopes that the breeze would fill in later in the day. The breeze was gusting around from five to seven knots which was satisfactory for some sailing.
The fleet completed the first race as soon as possible because there was fear that the winds might vanish completely later in the day.
With some tremendous tactical skills and impressive sailing under light breeze, New Zealand’s Greg Wilcox was able to claim the overall lead on the fleet with 20 points. The Kiwi sailor did get a low score of 16 during his campaign but still a bullet in
the last race brought him on top of the standing.
